The tailgate assistant not only supports the opening, but also the closing of the heavy tailgate. A high quality Stabilus damper slows the tailgate from falling when opening, thus protecting the material and reducing the risk of injury. Closing the tailgate is made easier by a torsion bar damper (depending on the vehicle model). This makes one handed operation possible.
