Mercury is often depicted holding the caduceus in his left hand, similar to his Greek equivalent Hermes. The caduceus symbol is identified with thieves, merchants, and messengers, and Mercury is said to have ruled over wealth, good fortune and fertility. The caduceus symbol originated
